A rough piece of apatite, left as it came out of the ground rather than cut or polished. The blue is vivid and runs through the stone in a grain, mottled with grey and a rusty orange across the surface where iron has marked it.
Rough pieces sit differently from anything shaped. There's no cut symmetry, just the surface the stone formed with, so no two come out the same. It stands or lies flat on a shelf without a stand, and the colour comes up well when it catches the light.
