A carved tealight holder in natural black obsidian, worked from a single piece with a polished bowl sunk into the centre to take a standard tealight. The outer edges are left rough where the stone has been cut, so the smooth hollow sits in contrast with the natural fracture running through the rim.
Obsidian is volcanic glass, formed when lava cools so quickly it sets without crystallising. This one is pitch black in the hand, with a glassy surface that throws the light back in soft highlights.
Stone: Natural black obsidian.
Size: Approximately 12cm across.
Use: Takes a standard tealight. Stand it on a heatproof surface, away from anything that could catch, and never leave a burning tealight unattended.
Care: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Obsidian is glass, so keep it away from hard edges and avoid sudden changes in temperature.
